Chinese Lanterns

Lesson: Design and technology

As part of our China topic, we used the story 'Lin Yi's Lantern' as inspiration for our very own lanterns. Together, we read the story and reserched why lanterns are significant in Chinese culture.

During our DT week, we reserached existing lantern designs, made a mind map of what a lucky lantern should include and then experimented with different designs. We used different folding and cutting techniques to create different designs. After we experimented with folding and cutting, we designed our own lanterns before we made them. Some of us even made some as part of our homework. We hung our lanterns up in class to celebrate Chinese New Year.
