Year 5 2017 - 2018

Miss Cotter

I would like to warmly welcome you to Year 5 where we are looking forward to a fantastic year. Year 5 is yet another exciting chapter in primary school where children begin their journey into Upper Key Stage 2. Although this year will be full of challenges and hard work it will also prove to be a roller coaster of fun, friends, discovery and adventure. I know this class will tackle any challenge with enthusiasm and an open mind! Support from home is always welcome and if there are any questions or queries please feel free to visit my classroom and the end of a school day.

Miss Cotter

How can you help?

You can greatly help your child by asking them questions about the book they are reading; testing their understanding, encouraging them to investigate the meaning of words they are unsure of, writing a book review or by giving you a summary of the reading they have done that night. Every little helps!

Maths:

In Year 5 the children are expected to be able to recall their times tables with great fluency and times tables are the foundation of the majority of the Maths curriculum. It is vital that the children can use their times tables quickly to help themselves to solve problems. You can help by asking them random times tables questions at any time of the day, even on the journey to school in the morning or over dinner, this quick fire approach would greatly benefit your child.

Topic:

Each half-term the class will be assigned a project related to our class topic. The children are encouraged to research their topic in depth. Using the internet, watching documentaries and visiting the local library are all ways of broadening their knowledge of their focus topic.
